A new customer in Palos Park called us with a unique drainage problem at his home. He believed there was a clog somewhere in his partially-underground drain tile. Frequent heavy rains were causing his sump pump to run continuously, however, water was still finding a way back to his house. The customer has three drainage grates in a row on his property, leading to a drainage field about 140 feet from his home. When he checked the grates, he noticed two of them were flowing but the third one closest to
the drainage field, was not.
Our technicians arrived and quickly assessed the situation. Their plan was to perform sewer rodding from the first grated cover to the sump discharge line, then rod from the third grated cover to the field. When rodding from the last grate to the drainage field, our team discovered that they couldn’t move further, as tree roots, dirt and debris were clogging the line. Our team finally got the line open and flowing again and recommended replacing the pipe because it was crushed.
Our team returned shortly after to replace the sewer line. They dug a trench thirty feet in the yard towards the drainage field and replaced all of the old corrugated pipe with 6” PVC pipe. The downspouts were tied in and our team changed the sump discharge through the brick wall. When our work was completed, the customer’s drainage issues were eliminated and he was very pleased with the work.
